Who is Nair San
Born in Kerala, in 1966, Murali completed his post graduate studies in Geology and went on to study a film making course at the Xaviers Institute of Communications, Bombay. He worked extensively in Bollywood as an assistant director to many film makers, while making his own short films. In 1993, his first short film, Tragedy of an Indian farmer, won him a National Award in India. A Long Journey, his third short film, made in 1996, was the first Indian short film to be screened at the Competition section in Cannes. In 1997, Murali moved to London and along with his wife, set up a film production house called Flying Elephant Films and started making programmes for British Television. His first feature film, “Throne of Death”, 1999, made in Malayalam, won the prestigious Camera D’ Or at Cannes, and won many other prizes in festivals around the world. Since this film, he directed 5 more award winning feature films. Details of these films can be found in the video store section. He has served as a member of jury in many festivals, including the Camera D Or section at Cannes. He teaches filmmaking and conducts workshops in many countries. Currently, Murali Nair is producing a series of youth programmes for British television and working on the screenplay of his next feature.
